The Seminole County High School Lady Indians defeated the Bainbridge High School Lady Bearcats by a score of 13-4 on Tuesday night at the BHS Diamonds.

New Bainbridge varsity softball coach Chris Bryant said the game started off close for the first three innings, but then Seminole capitalized on errors made by the Lady Bearcats to go on a scoring run.

The Lady Bearcats, now 1-4 very early in the season, are a young team that Bryant said he hopes will tune up with practice.

“Our Lady Bearcats are the same team that went undefeated during travel ball this summer,” Bryant said. “The girls actually beat Seminole three times during the summer.”

“We were hitting the ball good, unfortunately the ball was going right back to their fielders,” the coach said.

Abigail Gardner was the starting pitcher for the Lady Bearcats. Riley Fletcher came on the mound in relief.

McKayla Hamilton had an RBI for the Lady Bearcats. Hayleigh Thompson scored on a fielder’s choice; McKayla Hamilton and Tori Sprenkle also scored for the Lady Bearcats.

Lady Bearcats learn from playing non-region opponents

Coach Bryant also talked about the Lady Bearcats’ play at a season-opening tournament in Thomasville this past weekend, in which they defeated Brooks County, but lost to Echols and Charlton County.

“Echols County had a phenomenal pitcher,” Bryant said. “The tournament exposed our team to some very good competition and I think that will help us in our region play.”

In junior varsity play, Bainbridge defeated Seminole County 9-5. McKynleigh Harrell was the winning pitcher for the JV Lady Bearcats.

The BHS varsity softball team will be in action on Thursday at 6 p.m., when they take on the Miller County Lady Pirates in Colquitt, Ga.

Bainbridge Middle School softball team, under the direction of Coach Rick Lewis, will play its first game of the season against Lee East Middle School in Leesburg at 4 p.m.
