Saturday morning, the Bearcats took the field in pads for the first time of the season in front of a good sized crowd at Centennial Field. Led by Head Coach Jeff Littleton, the Bearcats are looking to improve from last year’s 6-5 record and began with what appeared to be a crisp & lively practice. This will be Coach Littleton’s third season in the Purple & Gold and he feels confident that this is the deepest team he’s had since arriving in Bainbridge.
From my vantage point, the Bearcats look to be a lot bigger, in numbers and in size, than they have been in the past. It was hard not to notice some of the big boys working hard down in the trenches and feel good about the Bearcats’ running attack in 2015. It also appeared that defensively, the Bearcats will be very competitive as that side of the ball really impressed me with how they seemed to know exactly what they were doing. I didn’t notice many times where the coaches were getting on to the players for not being where they needed to be on certain plays and in certain situations. All-in-all, I left the first practice of the season impressed with the Bearcats and very optimistic heading into the 2015 season.
The Bearcats take the field for the first time in 2015 when they host the Cairo Syrupmakers on Friday, August 14th in the first of two preseason scrimmages, the second one being against the Pelham Hornets at Centennial Field on August 21st. The first regular season game will be Friday, August 28th against the Early County Bobcats in Bainbridge.
