JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Steven Bench is asked what he loves about football. His response is akin to the rock star answering the kid reporter’s question about music in the final scene of Almost Famous:
“Everything.”
And then begins a glorious run-on sentence:
“The work in the off-season, the struggle during camp and during games, the ups and downs, the smell of the grass, the way the lights hit the field, the way the fans sound. Everything about it, I get goosebumps.
“I can’t explain what made me this way. But it’s the only thing I’ve ever been this passionate about.”
And that’s why he won’t give up on his dream of playing the game just because his college career has ended.
