HURRICANE MICHAEL: The Latest (11:00 a.m. Wednesday)

HURRICANE MICHAEL IS A STRONG CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IS CALLING MICHAEL A “HISTORIC STORM.”
THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS STORM.

THE WINDOW FOR EVACUATION IS CLOSING. IF YOU NEED TO EVACUATE, YOU NEED TO DO IT NOW. CONDITIONS WILL QUICKLY DETERIORATE AS THE DAY PROGRESSES.

EXTREMELY HIGH WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO ENTER OUR AREA IN THE AFTERNOON HOURS.
• 65-85 MPH WINDS WITH HIGHER GUSTS GREATER THAN 110 MPH ARE EXPECTED.
• TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS SHOULD EXIT OUR AREA EARLY THURSDAY MORNING.
• STRONG WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO LEAD TO DOWNED TREES, RESULTING IN WIDESPREAD, PROLONGED POWER OUTAGES.
• FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT. 5 TO 10 INCHES OF RAIN ARE EXPECTED.
• TORNADO RISK CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR TORNADOES.
• THIS IS A SERIOUS STORM. TAKE PRECAUTIONS NOW.
• IF YOU LIVE IN MOBILE HOMES, SEEK MORE SECURE SHELTER NOW.
• ONCE THE STRONGER WINDS BEGIN IMPACTING OUR AREA AND YOU HAVE NOT EVACUATED, YOU WILL HAVE TO SHELTER IN PLACE FOR THE DURATION OF THE STORM.
• FIRE AND EMS VEHICLES WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RESPOND ONCE SUSTAINED WINDS REACH 45 MPH.
• RESCUE MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME DUE TO BLOCKED ROADWAYS,
DOWNED POWER LINES AND TREES.
• THE FOLLOWING CHURCHES HAVE VOLUNTARILY OPENED SAFE HAVENS FOR CITIZENS:
ST PAUL CHURCH – 4562 FOWLSTOWN RD (NOT THE ONE ON HWY 84E) BAINBRIDGE CHURCH OF GOD – 205 INDEPENDENT STREET
YOU MUST TAKE YOUR OWN FOOD, SNACKS, PILLOWS, BLANKETS TO THE SAFE HAVEN. IF POWER GOES OUT, THERE ARE NO GENERATORS AT THE SAFE HAVENS. FOOD IS NOT AVAILABLE AT THESE LOCATIONS.
