Southern Football Report: Friday Night Preview

This Friday night is the final week before the playoffs get cranked up in the state of Georgia & there are plenty of games that absolutely matter this week.

Live 101.9, Bainbridge Bearcats at Cairo Syrupmakers – Like this rivalry needed any more fuel than it already had… The Bearcats will travel over the Cairo for the second time this season but this time the Region 1-AAAA Championship will be on the line. The Cats defeated the ‘Makers 21-7 earlier this season in one of the tightest games of the season for Bainbridge whose average margin of victory is a shade under 25 points per game. The Syrupmakers have finished the season on a bit of a hot streak winning three out of four with their only loss coming on a last second field goal against Monroe. We can talk history, statistics & anything else but we all know that when these two teams play one another, it’s always an intense game where anything can happen.

Rockin 106.3, Miller County Pirates at Terrell County Greenwaves – Plenty is on the line in Dawson, Georgia, this Friday night when these two Region 1-A teams square off in the regular season finale. There are very possible scenarios where both teams have chances to win the region with a win as there is currently a four-way tie for the lead in Region 1-A. Terrell County has won three of the last four meetings including the last two. The Pirates started the season 0-3 but have come on strong in the final month and a half of the season with a 5-1 record.

Q 92.3, Mitchell County Eagles at Randolph-Clay Red Devils – Just like the game in Dawson, there will be just as much on the line in Cuthbert, Georgia, on Friday night when Mitchell County makes the trip up to take on Randolph-Clay. The Red Devils have pitched three shutouts so far this season and two of those came within the last three games. The Mitchell County Eagles snapped a four game losing streak earlier in the year to win three of their last four on their way to this game. Historically, Randolph-Clay has owned this series having only lost to the Eagles four time ever.

Region 1-A Situation: If Miller County & Randolph-Clay win, Miller County wins the region. If Miller County & Mitchell County win, Mitchell County wins the region. If Mitchell County and Terrell County win, Terrell County wins the region. If Terrell County and Randolph-Clay win, Randolph-Clay wins the region.

OTHER GAMES

Berrien Rebels at Pelham Hornets – The 4-seed of Region 1-AA is on the line for the Rebels and Hornets in Pelham this Friday night. The Hornets are looking for their first taste of the postseason since 2009 while Berrien will be looking for back-to-back playoff berths since the early 90’s.

Thomasville Bulldogs at Early County Bobcats- The Bobcats are in as the 3-seed no matter what and Thomasville is eliminated no matter what but I’m sure Coach Woolf and the Bobcats want to enter the playoffs on a winning note.

Seminole County Indians at Fitzgerald Purple Hurricanes – The Indians are completely out of it because if they can pull the upset over Fitzgerald & get a Berrien win over Pelham, they could steal the 4-seed in Region 1-AA.

Colquitt County Packers at Camden County Wildcats – Yeah, it’s not being played in Southwest Georgia but we’ll all be paying attention to one of the best high school games in the country this Friday night where the Region 1-AAAAAA  title & an undefeated regular season will be on the line.

Lee County Trojans at Valdosta Wildcats – Both teams need a win to stay alive in the playoff hunt. Valdosta just needs a win while Lee County needs a win and some help from Tift County.

Lowndes Vikings at Tift County Blue Devils – Neither team is mathematically eliminated but Lowndes cannot afford back-to-back seasons not making the playoffs.
