Thomas County Central softball wins first round state playoff series

The Thomas County Central Lady Yellow Jackets advanced to the second round of the Georgia Class AAAA state softball playoffs on Wednesday night, defeating Locust Grove twice at the Henry County school’s field.

With the wins, Thomas County Central’s softball team record improves to 28 wins and only 6 losses on the season. The Lady Yellow Jackets will next play Buford, Ga. on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Game 1 – Thomas County Central 2, Locust Grove 0

An outstanding effort by Larran Carter carried Thomas County Central Lady Jackets to a 2-0 win in seven innings over Locust Grove on Wednesday.

Locust Grove’s lineup had no answer for Carter. Carter gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out five during her seven innings of work.

Carter lost her no-hit bid in the seventh inning on a single by Leweller.

Daniel took the loss for Locust Grove. She lasted just seven innings, walked one, struck out seven, and allowed two runs.

The lead stayed with Thomas County Central after the third, when it scored two runs on a two-run home run by Kenlie Harvey.

Game 2 – Thomas County Central 6, Locust Grove 4

The Thomas County Central Lady Jackets and Locust Grove traded the lead five times on Wednesday, but Thomas County Central Lady Jackets Varsity ended up on top with a 6-4 win in seven innings over Locust Grove.

Thomas County Central pulled out the win thanks to a strong third inning. An error scored Katelyn Hobbs and gave the Lady Yellow Jackets the lead for good.

Jamilah Johnson racked up two RBIs on two hits for Thomas County Central. She doubled in the second inning and singled in the third inning.

Larran Carter recorded the win for TCC. She allowed three runs over seven innings. She struck out two, walked two and surrendered five hits.

Daniel ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She lasted just 4 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out seven, and allowed two runs.

The top of the first saw Locust Grove take an early lead, 2-0. Locust Grove caught fire after Mcloch singled. Then Richardson doubled, plating Howard and Leweller.
