Bearcat logoThe Bainbridge High School Bearcats proved they belong at the top of the Region 1-AAAA standings, getting a big win against rival Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets on Friday night.

It’s the first time Bainbridge has started its football season 4-0 since 2009, according to the Georgia High School Football Historian’s Association. The 2004 Bearcats also started 4-0, and the 2011 Bearcats started the season 3-0 and finished 8-3. The 1986 Bearcats started 7-0 before its first loss.

With the win, Bainbridge jumped up from No. 7 to No. 6 on the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s list of the top 10 teams in Class AAAA. Going into Friday night’s game, Bearcats were at No. 9 on the Georgia Sportswriters’ Association Top 10 poll for Class AAAA.

The sportswriters’ poll will be updated later this week–you can hear both polls in their entirety by listening to the Countdown to Kickoff high school football show with Tommy Palmer, aired on all of our Flint Media stations at 6 p.m. on Friday nights.

This Friday, Bainbridge will host Crisp County, which is 1-3 so far on the season, at Centennial Field in Bainbridge.
