Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity jumped out to an early lead on Americus-Sumter and captured an 11-3 victory on Wednesday.
Seven runs in the first three innings allowed Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity to put the game away early.
A passed ball, a groundout by Seth Hall, an error, an RBI double by Anderson Bailey, and an error during the first inning and an RBI double by Hall in the second inning fueled Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity’s offense early.
Bailey did his best to jumpstart the offense for Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity, reaching base three times. He scored three runs and had one RBI.
Stanton Long got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over five innings. Long struck out six, walked one and gave up five hits.
John Nguyen couldn’t get it done on the rubber for Americus-Sumter, taking a loss. He allowed 11 runs in six innings, walked two and struck out none.
One run in the top of the second helped Americus-Sumter close its deficit to 5-1. An RBI double by Jacob Hicks fueled Americus-Sumter’s comeback. Finally, Long got Devyn Coley to ground out to end the threat.
After a quick strike from Americus-Sumter, Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity responded with one run in the second.
Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity quickly matched Americus-Sumter’s strong inning with a one-run inning of its own in the third. Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity scored on a steal of home by Bailey.
Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Dustin Strickland doubled, scoring Tyler Storey, Blake Merchant and Bailey to start the inning. That was followed up by Keith Lyle’s double, plating Dustin Strickland.
