Parents concerned after fight at Moultrie school sends student to hospital with ‘puncture’ wounds

There will be an increased security at a Moultrie school this week after a fight that was captured on video was shared on social media and created a debate over student safety.

A 15-year-old C.A. Gray Junior High student was hospitalized after a fight that school officials said involved “multiple students” just before classes were to begin Friday morning.

Cole Groves’ mother, Emily Smith, said that a doctor who treated her son classified his two injuries in the area of the back of his head as stab wounds with an unknown object.

Photos of a boy apparently holding an object in his hands in an apparent down-swing motion over Groves have appeared on social media.

Some students who talked to newspaper reporters said the injured student was hit in the back of the head by another student grasping a nail. However, the Colquitt County School superintendent said the fight did not involve a stabbing.

The Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the incident.
