Bainbridge JV fells Cairo, 5-3 on Monday

Cairo Syrupmakers JV lost 5-3 in seven innings at Cairo, GA on Monday, despite outhitting Bainbridge’s JV 10 to eight.

Clark Wiggins got the win for Bainbridge’s JV. He allowed three runs over five innings. Wiggins struck out five, walked none and gave up ten hits.

Wiggins also helped his team at the plate, driving in a run and scoring two. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the fifth inning.

Drew Leverette was the losing pitcher for Cairo. He lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed four runs.

BHS’ Griffin Long put away the final six Syrupmaker outs to record the save.

In the top of the third, Bainbridge HS grabbed the early lead, 1-0. Tripp Alford kicked things off for Bainbridge HS with a single. A groundout by Andre Jackson then moved Alford from first to second. Wiggins singled, plating Alford.

It didn’t take long for Cairo’s JV to respond as it scored one run of its own in the third, on an RBI single by Leverette.

Bainbridge’s JV didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the fifth inning when it scored on a three-run double by Preston Strickland.

Two runs in the bottom of the sixth helped Cairo close its deficit to 4-3. An RBI single by Emerson Hancock and an RBI single by Chase Dean set off Cairo Syrupmakers JV rally. But, BHS’ Long got Asa Childree to fly out to end the inning.
