Bainbridge boys’ soccer team begins 2015 campaign (plus highlight videos!)

The Bainbridge High School Bearcats are off to a decent 2-2 start to their 2015 season, and are hungry for more wins.

On Friday, Feb. 20, Bainbridge lost to non-region opponent Thomasville by a score of 7-0.

Last Tuesday, Bainbridge defeated Monroe of Albany 3-0.

In the game versus the Monroe High School Tornadoes, both teams battled throughout the contest and despite Bainbridge’s numerous attacks it appeared as the first half would end in a scoreless affair, but in the 38th minute as Bearcat Sophomore Midfielder  Leroy Rivera followed up a pass from Junior Midfielder Jesus Contreras 2 yards from the left post to give the Bearcats a 1-0 halftime lead.

In the 47th minute, of the second half, Bainbridge Sophomore defender Nathaniel Lambert intercepted a Monroe pass and lofted a pass downfield to Sophomore Forward Misael Rodriguez  who dribbled to the top of the Tornadoes penalty area a crossed an eighteen yard shot to the left post for the score.

The final goal came in the 78th minute as Rodriguez intercepted an indirect free kick just outside of the Monroe Penalty area and dribbled through Tornadoes defenders, shooting and scoring from 6 yards out to finish the scoring and giving Bainbridge a 3-0 region victory.

Bainbridge outshot Monroe with over 50 attempts to none by the Tornadoes.

Bainbridge vs. Northview-Dothan

In the first two games of the season, Bainbridge split matches with Northview Dothan and Americus-Sumter in a pair of non-region contests.

Against Northview, the host Cougars tallied five first half goals in a 8-1 victory over the Bearcats in Dothan. Misael Rodriguez intercepted a Northview pass and scored from 20 yards out for the lone Bearcat goal.

Bainbridge vs. Americus-Sumter

In the home opener for Bainbridge, the Bearcats scored three first half goals in a 4-0 victory and first win for 2015 vs. Americus-Sumter at Centennial field.

Sophomore Midfielder Rivera began the scoring in the 18th minute converting a penalty kick following being  fouled by a Panther defender in the penalty area to give Bainbridge a 1-0 lead.

In the 21st minute Bainbridge Forward Misael Rodriguez sent a through pass to Junior midfielder Jay Castro who worked the ball around the onrushing Panther goalkeeper and into the goal from 6 yards out to extend the lead at 2-0.

The final first half goal came in the 35th minute as Junior Midfielder Jesus Contreras lofted a corner kick to Senior defender Alex Ward, who headed the ball past the right post and into the goal from 10 yards out.

Bainbridge closed out the scoring on the night in the 79th minute of the second half as Rivera lofted a long goal kick past midfield in front of a racing Castro who got behind the Americus-Sumter defense and crossed a shot to the left post from 6 yards out. Bainbridge outshot Americus-Sumter with 35 attempts to 19 on the night.
