At noon on Friday, Nov. 7, the City of Bainbridge will be receiving a painting on permanent loan. The painting is of the USS Bainbridge.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Bradley will be presenting the painting in honor of Mrs. Murray’s father, Curtis O. Bacon. Mr. Bacon was given the painting as a gift of gratitude for his service to the US Navy.

The City of Bainbridge is named after the early U.S. Navy hero Commodore William Bainbridge, who has had several ships named after him over the years. As commander of the frigate USS Constitution, Commodore Bainbridge distinguished himself in the War of 1812 when he and his crew captured HMS Java, a 38-gun fifth-rate frigate of the Royal Navy.
The painting is of the fourth USS Bainbridge (DLGN-25/CGN-25), the only ship of her class. Initially a guided missile destroyer leader in the United States Navy, she was re-designated as a guided missile cruiser in 1975. This ship was nuclear-powered and was decommissioned in the 1990s.
The current USS Bainbridge (DDG-96) is an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer in the United States Navy. She is the fifth ship to carry that name, and the 46th destroyer of a planned 75-ship class.
