A 17-year-old Bainbridge teen was has been charged in connection with an alleged mugging reported early Friday, July 31, according to Bainbridge Public Safety.
Khalil Kashawn Dixon, 17, of 1116 E. MLK Jr. Drive, Bainbridge, was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with two counts of armed robbery and battery, according to the Decatur County Jail.
Public Safety officers identified Dixon as a suspect after two teenage boys reported that two other boys had lured them behind a building and robbed them of their valuables.
The primary victim, whose nose was bleeding when Officer Jason Myers made contact with him, said he and a friend were walking down Shotwell Street at approximately 2 a.m. when another boy riding a bicycle approached them and asked if they had anything to smoke. The two boys who had been walking said they did, and the boy on the bicycle invited them to hang out behind a closed Shotwell Street business.
The alleged victims stated they followed the boy on the bicycle, but once they were behind the building, a fourth boy walked up to them. The 4th boy was wearing a ski mask and was holding a large white concrete brick in his hand.
The primary victim stated that the boy on the bicycle, alleged to be Dixon, and the boy wearing the ski mask made them empty their pockets. The victims stated they were robbed of two cell phones, a lighter, a smoking pipe and pipe tobacco and some cigarettes.
The primary victim stated the boy on the bicycle forced him to fight and after the fight was over, the alleged robbers told them to stay there until they were long gone. The victims then walked to their homes in northeast Bainbridge.
When the teens made their report to Myers, it almost 4 a.m. Myers recalled that he and other officers had got out with Khalil Dixon as he was riding his bicycle on Sharpe Street at about 3 a.m. to ask him where he was going, as there is a nighttime curfew for teens in Bainbridge. Dixon said he had just walked his cousin, who is not named here because he is a juvenile, to his home. BPS officers later identified the juvenile as possibly being the suspect wearing the ski mask.
Officers searched Dixon’s pockets and found items matching what the mugging victims reported stolen. However, at the time, officers didn’t know a robbery had occurred, and only confiscated the tobacco-related items because Dixon was only 17.
Myers obtained a previous booking photo of Dixon and the victims identified him as being the boy on the bicycle.
