Blake Merchant did all he could to give Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity a boost, but it wasn’t enough to get past Cook County, as Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity lost 8-3 in seven innings at Bearcat Field on Friday.
Merchant had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He doubled in the first and third innings and singled in the sixth inning.
D Rentz recorded the win for Cook County. He allowed three runs over seven innings. He struck out 10, walked one and surrendered six hits.
Stanton Long took the loss for Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity. He allowed eight runs in five innings, walked two and struck out two.
The bottom of the first saw Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity take an early lead, 2-0. Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity’s threat began with a single by Carson Inlow. A passed ball then moved Inlow from first to second. Merchant doubled, plating Inlow. More runs came home for Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity when Heard scored on an error.
Cook County stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the fourth, scoring five runs on three errors and a sacrifice fly by Z Folsom.
After pushing across one run in the bottom of the sixth, Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity faced just a 8-3 deficit. A fielder’s choice sparked Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity’s rally. But, Rentz got Keith Lyle to fly out to end the inning.
