A homeowner interrupted a burglary in progress on Tuesday afternoon in a neighborhood off Vada Road in Bainbridge, according to police.
A resident of Cumberland Court returned home and discovered his back door cracked, a busted out window where the suspect had apparently entered the home, said Major Robert Humphrey, chief investigator with Bainbridge Public Safety. Additionally, a big-screen television had been moved and placed next to the back door.
“The resident coming in probably scared off the suspect,” Major Humphrey said.
Some helpful to prevent burglaries include:
- Check the mail regularly and pick up old newspapers. Keep the lawn maintained, so the home looks “lived-in” to would-be thieves.
- Store your valuables away from windows or doors where they can easily be seen from the outside.
- Hide or destroy any outside trash that may advertise your personal belongings to the rest of your neighborhood.
- Leave spare house keys with trusted friends, family, or neighbors instead of placing them outside on your property.
- Consider installing a home security system.
- Install outdoor lights that detect motion or infrared energy. Make sure the lights don’t shine into your neighbor’s home or blind passing motorists.

Woman arrested after running over three men with a car
An Attapulgus woman was arrested on Friday, Jan. 23 after she allegedly ran her car into three men she was arguing with, according to Bainbridge Public Safety.
Violet Fiona Moore, 24, of 3211 Tallahassee Highway, Attapulgus, was arrested at around 12:20 Friday.
“Someone captured the incident on their phone, because a big argument had taken place,” Investigator Chip Nix said.
However, the three victims were standing off the pavement when Moore accelerated her car toward them, Nix said. Two of the men were transported to Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge by ambulance.
In addition to three counts of aggravated assault, Moore is also facing charges of criminal trespass for running through two fences with her car, according to Nix.
Later on Friday, Jan. 23, Bainbridge Public Safety officer Ryan Deen responded to The Rivers Apartments, 1005 River Road, in reference to a stabbing at one of the apartments.
