LEON COUNTY HOMICIDE SUSPECT CAPTURED BY BAINBRIDGE PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICERS

On Thursday afternoon at 4:32pm, Public Safety officers were dispatched to the Sims Street Apartments in reference to shots fired.  As officers were in route, they were given a description of the male suspect and notified that he had fled on foot and was headed down Water Street.

Shift 4 officers converged on the area and within minutes, Captain Toby Miller spotted a male matching the description. He drove toward the suspect, stopped, and exited his patrol vehicle. Hearing Miller’s verbal commands to stop, the suspect complied, and Miller was able to secure him without incident.

The male suspect, identified as Gregory Bernard Murphy, Jr., age 20, came back through E911 as wanted out of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office for “Homicide” and “Home Invasion With a Weapon.”  He was transported to the Decatur County Jail where he is awaiting extradition to Leon County.

Following Murphy’s capture, and after a thorough search of the area, Officer Davina Thomas located a 12 Gauge Pistol Grip Shotgun in a trash container.  At the time of the arrest, officers had not yet determined who Murphy had been shooting at.

Captain Miller expressed his appreciation to Shift 4 for their quick response to the call which contributed to the prompt capture and arrest of a dangerous felon.  He is also extremely relieved that the firearm was located eliminating the possibly that it could have fallen into the wrong hands.
