NWS: Tropical System Moving Westward

The latest from the NWS in Tallahassee regarding the tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico:

The area of low pressure has moved over the open waters south of Apalachicola and will continue to slide westward away from the tri-state area over the next several days. There is a 90% chance for tropical in the next 48 hours, 90% chance over the next 5 days). Although the system will be moving away from us, we  still expect to see a high coverage of showers and thunderstorms through the weekend, which could bring locally heavy rainfall, along with increased surf heights and elevated risk for rip currents along the coast.
