AAA: Georgia Gas Prices on the Rise

AAA: GEORGIA GAS PRICES RISE 6 CENTS

ATLANTA, Ga., (July 8, 2019) — Georgia gas prices are up this week compared to a week ago. Georgia motorists are now paying an average price of $2.60 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline. Monday’s state average is 6 cents more than a week ago, 7 cents more than this time last month, and 12 cents less than this time last year.

It now costs $39.00 to fill a 15-gallon tank of gasoline. That is $3.60 less than what motorists paid last May, when pump prices hit their 2018 peak of $2.84 per gallon.

“Georgia gas prices have been increasing, but the national average is still less than last year’s high,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “The majority of motorists can expect more expensive gas prices throughout July although the national average is likely to stay under $3/gallon.”

Pump Prices Continue Ascent After Holiday

Pump prices have increased as gasoline stocks decreased and demand remains robust. According to the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) data for last week, total domestic gasoline stocks fell by 1.6 million bbl to 230.6 million bbl. On the demand front, it grew slightly to 9.5 million b/d. If gas stocks continue to dwindle alongside typical demand rates seen during the busy summer driving season, American motorists will likely see pump prices continue through the weekend.

South and Southeast

In the region, four states saw gas prices jump by at least a nickel on the week: Florida (+13 cents), Georgia (+6 cents), Alabama (+6 cents) and Texas (+5 cents).

Regional Prices

  • Georgia most expensive metro markets –Atlanta ($2.67), Hinesville- Fort Stewart-Brunswick-Gainesville ($2.60).
  • Georgia least expensive metro markets – Catoosa-Dade-Walker ($2.44), Augusta-Aiken-Dalton ($2.47).
