PRESS RELEASE: Mitchell County Superior Court Trials for April Term

PRESS RELEASE- The two  week term of Mitchell County Superior Court trials for the April term of 2019 consisted of approximately 60 cases. One case set for a jury trial Thursday, April 18, 2019 ended with a guilty plea. Herbert Leon Edmonds was charged with Statutory Rape and Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes. Evidence proved that between the 1st day of February, 2018 and April 24, 2018, Edmonds was accused and charged of engaging in sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16 years of age. He also unlawfully solicited and enticed a child under the age of sixteen years through text messages for the purpose of sexual intercourse.

Honorable Judge Heather Lanier sentenced Herbert Leon Edmonds to 25 years, 15 to serve in the state prison system on April 18, 2019.

The South Georgia District Attorney’s Office would like to applaud the Camilla Police Department, the GBI, Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office and Pelham Police Department for their cooperation given this week in our efforts to fight these serious crimes.
