Sylvester, GA (August 17, 2018) –
On Friday, August 17, 2018, Sylvester Police Department Investigator Jaton Johnson, 46, was arrested for Violation of Oath by a Public Officer, False Swearing, and False Statements. Johnson turned himself in and was booked into the Worth County Jail.
On August 6, 2018, the Tift County District Attorney’s Office requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to conduct an investigation in reference to allegations of perjury and false statements involving Johnson. It is alleged that Johnson provided a false statement to a Worth Magistrate Judge in order to obtain a dismissal of warrants taken by another Sylvester Police Department officer.
This investigation is ongoing.
