Scripture Of The Day – April 7th

The Holy Bible

Psalm 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Isaiah 26:3-4 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

John 3:3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:16-17  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

  1. Your daily religion post means a lot to many, but to many others it does not. If you really want to provide a service to the community, restore arrest reports, stop screening and selecting the deaths that you report, and provide more coverage of important local news and activities. You have the opportunity to be a great news source, and admired by our community, but it needs work.

    • Dear Citizen,
Thank you for your comment. The arrest reports haven’t gone anywhere – last week was spring break and we simply did not have the man power to collect and post them each day. You will find them on the site shortly after lunch today.

As far as the religion post goes, that is the core of our mission statement as an organization. If it offends or turns someone off, that’s certainly not our intent, in fact it is the complete opposite. But we will continue to post it each day. As much as you disagree, our dedication to it will not change. That decision has been made.

Regarding the deaths that we “screen”, I’m not sure I follow. We post obituaries from the surrounding funeral homes on our website and on the radio twice per day.

  2. Dustin, Thank you for your reply, but you misread my intentions and took unjustified offense. Example,
“As far as the religion post goes, that is the core of our mission statement as an organization. If it offends or turns someone off, that’s certainly not our intent, in fact it is the complete opposite. But we will continue to post it each day. As much as you disagree, our dedication to it will not change. That decision has been made. ”

    My actual statement was this,
“Your daily religion post means a lot to many, but to many others it does not”.
I in no shape form or fashion ever said that I was offended or turned off, and never said that I much disagree with your form of thought. This is an honest and factual statement that was not intended as offensive to anyone, but merely a true fact. Everyone in this country is entitled to their independent and personal opinion, and belief system the last time I checked. I am not offended by your religious beliefs, and I actually respect them, please do the same for others that differ from yours before you jump to conclusions. Now for the deaths report, well lets face reality and tell it like it is. Sometimes everyone makes an error, but when that same error repeats itself multiple times, well it bears looking into. While I could present many times of this happening, I will only present one example, J L Ward at Ivey Funeral Home. For weeks, every death prior to his was posted on your site, as well as each death after his, even though he was a prominent businessman in our county since 1956. Error, really?
My intention was to offer a suggestion as to how you could better serve our community, nothing more or nothing less. I have only stated facts, and stand behind them, if my respect and other peoples respect in our community means anything to you, publish this and clarify your position. Man up.

    • Dear Citizen,
Thank you for your thoughtful response. Please direct any additional comments to my email (dustin@live1019.com) so as not to deflect from the original intent of this post (scripture of the day). I will not approve any additional comments on this forum.

To address your comments (or questions or however you choose to define them):

First, scripture of the day will be posted each day. Liberty (religious and otherwise) exists in both an expression and the lack thereof. If you truly appreciate and respect my views, please stop bringing these posts up as fodder for your argument.

Second, we don’t post “death notices”. We have obituaries that are automatically gathered from a third party. We don’t screen them – if someone is left out, it was a third party omission, not ours. Specifically regarding Mr. Ward, we published his obituary on the radio as soon as it was made public by the funeral home handling it.

I will leave you with this: Benjamin Franklin once said, “Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn.” You can’t help that you don’t understand how something works (ex: “death notices” on sowegalive.com), but now that you’ve been educated on the issue, you have a responsibility to evaluate your opinion.

Thank you for your clicks and have a great day!
