Baconton All Stars 5/6-year-olds Win District 5 Championship

Twelve little boys’ ages 5 and 6 representing Baconton All-Stars won the District Baseball Championship for District 5 on Thursday, June 9, 2016 in Albany, Georgia.  There were some struggles as you can imagine.  Most of the team hit a pitched ball while some batted using a stationary t-ball form. Baconton received a bye for the first game.  They played Sunday, June 5 against Albany International and lost 15-14.  The game was cancelled on Monday, June 6 due to Tropical Storm Colin.  On Tuesday, June 7 Baconton played against Albany American and won 23 – 8. The final game for Baconton was played on Thursday, June 9. Baconton All Stars 5/6-year-olds played against Albany American for the final Championship.  The final score was 23 – 15.  Though the 5/6-years-olds will not play in a state tournament but, they will play in other games across South Georgia.

Team members were Lane Murphy, Asher Merritt, Preston Hurst, Hayden Allen, Mason Jones, Victor Esquivel-Cruz, Grant Shiver, Dakota McClellan, Corbin Suggs, Caden Logue, Logan Hooks, and Keegan Summers. The coaches were Head Coach Cale Suggs,Marcus Tucker, Kyle Jones, and David Heim.

Each boy received a championship ring while the team received a trophy after the championship game.  Head Coach Cale Suggs commented, “I am proud of all these boys for being the 5/6-years-old-team to win District for Baconton!”

This is the first 5/6-years-old-team to win a district championship from Baconton. The team wishes to thank all the parents, friends and supporters for a successful season.
