Damieon Pierce rushed for 72 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries as Bainbridge defeated the Cairo Syrupmakers for the Region 1-AAAA championship, Bainbridge’s first region title since 1993.
Bainbridge forced three turnovers, survived three interceptions of its own and led 205-202 in total yards.
With the win, Bainbridge earned a No. 1 seed in the Georgia Class AAAA football playoffs. The Bearcats will face the Griffin Bears at Centennial Field in Bainbridge on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Griffin has a record of 6 wins, 4 losses on the season.
Bainbridge is still ranked No. 5 on The Atlanta Journal Constitution’s ranking of the Top 10 teams in Class AAAA. The Bearcats are also No. 5 on the Georgia High School Sportswriters’ Top 10 Poll.
