Friday nights in southwest Georgia are always fun and tonight will be no different with Flint Media’s three high school broadcasts.
Bainbridge Bearcats at Monroe Tornadoes, WBGE-FM, Live 101.9 FM – The Bearcats have inched higher in the Atlanta Journal Constitution’s AAAA Top 10 to number 7 after their 21-7 win over the Syrupmakers in Cairo and have some serious momentum early in the season. They’ll be on the road again this week when they travel up to Hugh Mills Stadium to take on the 2-0 Monroe Tornadoes. Bainbridge will be their toughest test yet and item number one on their list of way to stop the Bearcats will be to figure out a way to cover wide receiver Tyler Storey who set multiple Bainbridge receiving records last week. Both teams are undefeated so something’s gotta give in Hugh Mills Stadium tonight.
Mitchell County Eagles at Seminole County Indians, WGMK-FM, Rockin 106.3 FM – First year Indians head coach Wes Williams had a good showing in the first week of the season but fell just short against Pacelli 28-20 and will play host the Mitchell County Eagles who moved the ball last week but were plagued by turnovers in their 30-19 loss to rival Pelham. Both teams are run-first football teams so this one will be an old school smash mouth south Georgia football game where the team who doesn’t turn the ball over will most likely win. These two teams, at one time, were bitter Region 1-A rivals and I’m sure there is still no love lost between the Eagles and the Indians.
Pelham Hornets at Miller County Pirates, WQLI-FM, Q 92.3 FM – First year Pelham head coach Dondrial Pinkins got a big win last week against his former team, Mitchell County, and now will take his Hornet team on the road again to face off against the Miller County Pirates who have finished licking their wounds from a 50-0 thrashing by Early County last Friday night. The Pirates are a young team who will only get better as the season goes on and Pelham was the beneficiary of five Mitchell County turnovers and scored as a result of four of them. Miller County will need to figure out a way to move the ball on offense and so will Pelham because other than the great field position caused by turnovers, they struggled to move the football as well.
