Southern Football Report: Seminole County Indians Season Preview

Seminole County Indians HelmetThe Seminole County Indians welcome new head coach Wes Williams as their new signal caller. Coach Williams served a few years under Coach Alan Ingram, who decided that last year would be his final year as a head coach. Coach Ingram had success everywhere he went and turned Seminole County into a feared football program. It’s now Coach Williams’ job to put the Indians back in the playoffs after missing them last season for the first time since 2004. Coach Wes Williams said, “There’s a lot pressure stepping into a winning program. Coach Ingram won a lot of games at Seminole County. I enjoyed working with him and I hope I can continue the tradition.”

Coach Wes Williams has put together a good coaching staff at Seminole County. Coach Williams stated, “The coaching staff is deeper this year than the past. A lot of these guys have either played for, or coached with Ingram. I trust them so much that I’m letting them finish up the last few minutes of practice while I’m in here being interviewed.”

The Indians look to bounce back in their second year in the AA classification. Last year, Seminole County went 4-6 in their first run at region 1-AA. After losing 18 seniors last year, Senior quarterback Alex Fudge is going to have to lead this team through a tough region schedule. Fudge has shown toughness and heart through his Seminole County career and is set out to have a big senior year. Coach Williams said, “Region 1-AA is a tough region. Maybe one of the toughest regions in the state. When you have to play teams like Brooks, Thomasville, Fitzgerald, and Early, week in and week out, it’s tough.”

The Seminole County Indians take on Albany High to start their season. Coach Williams said, “We’re excited to play Albany and are more than ready to start the season. Hugh Mills Stadium just got new turf and the boys have never played on a surface like that and they are pumped about that. Practice has been intense and hot. Players have been angry at each other all summer. We’re just ready to be angry at another team.”
