The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for parts of Bainbridge and Southwest Georgia, after three inches of rain fell within a span of two hours on Tuesday afternoon.
While the official total was 3.13 inches, Decatur County Public Works said it received 5 inches of water in its rain gage on Airport Road in West Bainbridge.
Bainbridge Public Safety said its officers dealt with flooded roads and vehicle accidents as a result of recent heavy rainfall. Several roads had to be temporarily barricaded for the safety of motorists.
While no roads maintained by Decatur County were closed Wednesday, the Georgia Department of Transportation closed part of U.S. 27 in northern Decatur County.
U.S. 27 North between Pine Hill Road and Brinson Air Base Road in northern Decatur County, is closed until further notice due to water over the roadway. The northbound lanes have been converted into a two-lane road for the portion of highway affected by the water. Use caution and follow the signs to continue traveling through the area.
