A Georgia highway safety official says law enforcement will be out in force for the Labor Day weekend trying to prevent drunk driving.
Director of the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety Harris Blackwood says increased patrols, sobriety checkpoints and more visibility are part of a national safety campaign from Aug. 21 to Sept. 7.
Last year, Georgia saw 15 traffic deaths and more than 1,200 injuries. That’s down from 22 people killed during accidents in 2013.
Officials say people should plan a safe way home before celebrating, designate sober drivers and contact law enforcement if they do see a drunk driver on the road.
