Lady athletes from Southwest Georgia take home honors at state track meet

Lady track and field athletes from Southwest Georgia had a strong showing at the Georgia Girls State Track meet, held May 7-9 in Albany, Ga.

Overall, Thomasville placed 4th in the Class AA team standings. Mitchell County placed 8th out of 29 teams in the Class A-Public competition.

Bryana Scott of Thomas County Central placed 2nd in the Class AAAA shot put, with a throw of 126 feet, 8 inches.

Cheyenne Brooks of Pelham placed 2nd in the Class AA pole vault, with a leap of 10 feet, six inches.

Danisha Jones of Thomasville won the Class AA discus throw and set a new Class AA record with a throw of 137 feet, 2 inches.

Thomasville’s Danisha Jones also won the Class AA shot put with a throw of 44 feet, 11 inches.

Alli Hay of Pataula Charter placed 4th in the Class AA 3200 meters, with a time of 14 minutes, 2.46 seconds. Hay also placed sixth in the Class A-Public 1600 meters, with a time of 6 minutes, 20.44 seconds.

Shakilra Pendergrass of Baconton placed 5th in the Class A-Public long jump, with a leap of 15 feet, 11 inches.

Mitchell County’s ‘A’ team placed 4th in the Class A-Public 4 x 100 meter relay, with a time of 50.89 seconds. The relay team consisted of Adrianna Harvey, Bristol Hicks, Shanariana Hicks and Kayla Lawrence.

Thomasville’s ‘A’ team placed 2nd in the Class AA 4 x 100 meter relay, with a time of 48.56 seconds. The relay team consisted of Aleah Wagner, Naomi Toles, Sherriona Jackson, and Mahogony Walter.

Audriana Bridley of Miller County placed 8th in the Class A-Public 400 meter dash, with a time of 1 minute, 5.48 seconds.

Kayla Lawrence of Mitchell County placed 3rd in the Class A-Public 100 meter dash, with a time of 12.58 seconds. Lawrence also placed 3rd in the Class A-Public 200 meter dash.

Mahogony Walter of Thomasville placed 2nd in the Class AA 100 meter dash, with a time of 12.04 seconds. Walter also placed 2nd in the Class AA 200-meter run with aa time of 24.67 seconds.

Adrianna Harvey of Mitchell County placed 3rd in the Class A-Public 100 meter hurdles.

Raneisha Florence of Pelham placed 6th in the Class AA 100 meter hurdles, with a time of 16.08 seconds.

Thomasville’s Aleah Wagner placed 7th in the Class AA 100 meter hurdles, with a time of 16.13 seconds.

Mitchell County’s Shanariana Hicks placed 8th in the Class A-Public 800 meter run.

Early County’s Tiara Lindsey placed 4th in the AA 200 meter dash, with a time of 25.75 seconds.
