Bainbridge High School soccer teams play hard against Cook County (Highlight Videos!)

Bainbridge 2, Cook County 1 (Boys)

BHS_boys_soccer_CookLast Friday night, the Bainbridge High School boys soccer team travelled to Adel in region play and came back with a hard fought 2-1 victory.

Bainbridge took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute of the first half as Junior midfielder Jesus Contreras intercepted a Cook County goal kick and quickly sent a pass to teammate Sophomore Forward Leroy Rivera who raced past the Hornet defense and delivered a 12 yard shot to the right post.

Cook County countered in the 44th minute, of the second half,  to tie the score 1-1, when the Hornets took a throw in and made a couple of quick touch passes before lofting the ball to a Cook County Forward around the penalty spot who quickly headed the ball into the goal.

Bainbridge’s winning goal came in the 73rd minute, as Contreras lofted a free kick to Senior defender Alex Ward who was lined up in the middle of the penalty area, and headed the ball into the back of the nets to give Bainbridge a 2-1 lead. Despite a flurry of activity in front of the Bainbridge goal late, the Bearcat defense held up for the victory.

Highlights vs. Cook County

The Bearcats improved their overall record at 5-3 on the season and 3-0 in region play.

Following a 2-1 start on the season, Bainbridge has lost to Thomasville 7-0, beat Westover and Carroll High School of Ozark, Ala. with 2-0 and 5-4 scores respectfully, and lost 4-0 to Northview High School of Dothan.

In the game with Carroll High School, Bainbridge overcame a 2-0 first half deficit to tie the score by halftime, but then were down again 4-2  in the second half, before ralling with three goals late in the contest, to win an exciting game 5-4 at Centennial field on February 28th.

In that game  Leroy Rivera scored two first half goals followed by second half scores from Senior Midfielder Mauricio Granados, Jay Castro, who also gathered 2 assists, and the game winner with ten minutes remaining by Contreras.

Scoring goals in the 2-0 region victory vs. Westover was sophomore forward Misael Rodriguez, who also sent a nice assist to Castro to convert the second goal of the game.

Bainbridge 2, Cook County 1 (Girls)

BHS_girls_soccer_CookBainbridge High School Senior Midfielder Jennifer Becerra attacked the left side of the Cook County defense and centered a pass to teammate, sophomore forward, Ilean Marques,  who then quickly shot from six yards out scoring the game winning goal into the first overtime, to propel the Lady Cats soccer team to a 2-1 region victory over Cook County Friday night.

Cook County took a 1-0 halftime lead just two minutes into the contest on a lofted shot from 18 yards out, both teams battled throughout the half just missing on several chances. Bainbridge Freshman Goalkeeper Morgan Cannon had a double save just before the end of the half to keep the Lady Cats in it.

Highlights vs. Cook County

Bainbridge responded, to tie the score  in the 56th minute of the second half, as Becerra intercepted a Cook County throw in and raced towards the goal squeezing off a shot that crossed over the goal line, from 12 yards out,  just moments from being tumbled by the lady Hornet goal keeper.

The Lady Cats raised their overall record at 3-5 on the season and 2-1 in region play. The win halted a four game losing skid in which they lost to Thomasville High School 6-0; followed by Losses to Westover 4-0, Carroll High School of Ozark, Ala. 1-0, and Northview of Dothan, Ala. 2-0.

The Lady Cats will host Crisp County in region play Friday night at Centennial Field starting at 5:30 p.m.
