Bursts of offense lead Lady Bearcats softball to 13-5 victory over Albany

The Bainbridge High School Lady Bearcats varsity softball team beat Albany on Tuesday 13-5 in six innings.

The Lady Bearcats scored six runs in the third inning on an RBI triple by Makayla Hamilton, an RBI triple by Bailey Rayfield, an error, an RBI single by Taylor Swanner, and a two-run single by Mabry Grace Briggs.

Rayfield put herself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Lady Bearcats.

Swanner looked sharp on the rubber for Bainbridge. Swanner held Albany hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two.

Reilly Fletcher got the win for the Lady Bearcats despite allowing five runs over three innings. Fletcher struck out two, walked one and gave up seven hits.

Swanner, Rayfield and Haley Thompson helped lead the Lady Bearcats offensively. They combined for seven hits and four RBIs.

Shamya Loman couldn’t get it done in the circle for Albany, taking a loss. She allowed 12 runs in five innings, walked four and struck out none.

The Lady Bearcats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Swanner got things going for Bainbridge with a single.

Albany survived Bainbridge’s surge and put up three runs of its own in the second. Albany scored on an RBI single by Jasmine Cox, an RBI single by Asija Kendrick, and an error.

The Lady Bearcats tacked on another three runs in the fifth. A single by Swanner ignited the offense, bringing home Tori Sprenkle and Thompson. That was followed up by Shelbie Summerlin’s single, scoring Swanner.
