Team effort made Secret Santa a big success!

Secret Santa 3Secret Santa was a huge success!

Thanks to your support, Flint Media and its community partners have been able to provide Christmas gifts, clothing and household necessities to the families of approximately 450 children in Decatur County (and even a few just over the border of Seminole and Miller counties.)

We could not have done Secret Santa without the help of Decatur Community Cares (Monica Oliver and Sherry Weaver), Decatur County Family Connection, Decatur County Schools and the support of our business partners, loyal listeners and friends.

Whether you dropped off a toy or other items, adopted a family of children to buy gifts for, made a monetary donation or just helped spread the word about what we were doing, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your caring and generosity will help many local familes have a joyous, fulfilled Christmas.

Thank you to to Decatur County school bus drivers, about 13 of whom helped Santa Claus with directions in finding the homes where the toys were to be delivered.

Thank you to Decatur County school social workers, who not only helped us identify many of the families who needed help with Christmas, but also provided assistance with delivery.

Early on in the Secret Santa project, we were told that 12 local families were in desperate need of household heat. Because we could not know what each family’s financial situation was, we opted to go with portable space heaters powered by kerosene, which heats an entire house without the use of electricity. When you quickly need to buy 12 portable space heaters, they’re not easy to find. Stone’s Hardware Center helped us locate the heaters we needed and helped make paying for them possible.
