After defeating Thomas County Central last Friday night to keep their season alive, the Bainbridge Bearcats will take to the road to face West Laurens High School in the first round of the Georgia AAAA football playoffs.
West Laurens is located in Dexter, Ga., located southwest of Dublin, Ga., or about 160 miles northeast of Bainbridge. (see map)
Bainbridge is the #4 seed from Region 1-AAAA, while West Laurens is the #1 seed from Region 2-AAAA.
This season, Bainbridge was 6-4 overall in the regular season and 5-3 in region play (the Cairo game was not considered as counting as a region game since it was already scheduled prior to Bainbridge dropping down from AAAAA to AAAA.) In 2013, the Bearcats were 5-6 and in 2012 they were 7-4.
In 2014, West Laurens was 7-3 overall, 5-1 in region play, however, they were 3-7 overall in 2013 and 5-5 in 2012.
West Laurens’ colors are royal blue and white and their team name is the Raiders. They are coached by Stacy Nobles.
If Bainbridge were to beat West Laurens, the Bearcats would face the winner of Stephens County and Pickens. Fayette County, whom Bainbridge has played before in recent years, is also in Bainbridge’s part of the playoff bracket, but will have to face Region 6 champion St. Pius in the first round.
