Brad Barber, 43, a native of Albany with Bainbridge ties, has been named the new chief executive officer of First National Bank of Decatur County.
Barber grew up in Albany but his father, Wayne Barber, and grandfather Evans Barber both farmed in Decatur County and young Brad spent his summers on the farm with them.
The First National Bank of Decatur County Board of Directors selected Barber to become the bank’s new CEO in early July. His immediate previous position was serving as a senior vice president at Commercial Banking Company. He and his family have lived in Moultrie the past 20 years but are planning to move to Bainbridge at some point.
“Bainbridge is a great community and joining First National Bank is a great opportunity for my family and myself,” Barber said. “I’m very thankful to the board of directors for placing their trust in me and allowing me to join such a good team.”
Barber has 24 years’ experience in banking. He started as a drive-through teller at the former C & S bank in Athens, Ga., and has worked in all areas of a bank’s operation, including collections, lending and the phone switchboard.
“In community banking, you do a little bit of everything,” Barber said.
Barber is a graduate of Lee County High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Georgia. He is also a graduate of Louisiana State University’s School of Banking. He is active with the Georgia Bankers Association serving on the Leadership Executive Committee and was past president of that committee. He was a member of the Moultrie Rotary Club.
Barber is married to the former Wendy Powell of Colquitt, Ga., and the couple have two sons.
The community is invited to stop by First National Bank of Decatur County at 819 E. Shotwell Street and welcome Mr. Barber to Bainbridge.
