MHG to Begin Construction at Agrocrush Plant – Expected to be Completed in May 2015

Local Bainbridge Company Contracted to Building $2 Million Project at MHG

MHG, the manufacturer of 100 percent biodegradable and renewable plastic replacement, is pleased to announce they are adding a 260,000 bushel grain storage facility to their Agrocrush plant, where they will crush the canola to make PHA. The project will cost an estimated $2 million to build out the grain bins. Jenkins Mechanical Inc., a vested locally owned company will head up this project, with site preparations and engineering currently underway to support the construction effort.

After looking at several different vendors nationwide, MHG selected JMI, who is an authorized Chief dealer. Chief has more than 50 years of experience in grain storage systems and the equipment being installed has been proven to be successful in the canola industry. JMI was able to meet the scope of work of this project and is located close by for when service is needed. Extending this opportunity to a local company expresses MHG’s values of environmental sustainability and helping the economy in the local community.

MHG expects the system with controls to be completed in time for the harvest next spring. There are more than 4,000 acres of canola currently being grown in the surrounding area, and is expected to yield roughly 200 to 300 truckloads of seed. The new storage grain facility will allow MHG to unload a truck in ten to fifteen minutes with inspections and grading occurring as the trucks arrive. When finished there will be 10,000,000 pounds of seed in storage. MHG expects to have the crush line in place in December of 2015 to begin processing the seed.

Last year, 1,000 acres were planted with canola in the fall, which produced more than 43 bushels per acre. Despite less than desirable conditions the crop endured over the season, the canola was healthy and undamaged. The success of last season supported MHG’s decision to use locally grown canola as their major source to produce their completely biodegradable PHA.

MHG is continuing to make great strides as they continue plan to deliver commercialized products next year after the final phase of build out at the MHG property. “We are starting to see our model of “Renewability and Sustainability” taking root” says Dr. Pereira.
