Bainbridge and Decatur County citizens are invited to get an up-close view inside the recently renovated Bainbridge City Hall on Saturday, Sept. 20.
The open house at City Hall will be held Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 101 S. Broad Street in downtown Bainbridge.
Renovation of City Hall was completed in Spring 2013; it took about a year to overhaul three buildings owned by the City of Bainbridge and combine them into one seamless building that is more efficient, safer and more accessible, and much more welcoming to the public.
The open house at Bainbridge City Hall is Saturday, Sept. 20 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Artwork commissioned by city leaders to be displayed inside City Hall will be one of the highlights of the City Hall open house. The artwork includes professional and amateur photographs of Bainbridge landmarks, oil paintings of local scenes by Jim Willis, and pen and ink drawings contributed by local artists.
Other highlights include the new City Council chambers on the 2nd floor of City Hall, the restoration of the historic drop ceilings from when the building was a bank, and the Bill Reynolds conference room, which features a large framed portrait of the late, longtime mayor of Bainbridge.
The headquarters of the City of Bainbridge was formerly comprised of two buildings — the original marble building at the corner of Broughton and Broad streets, and an adjacent building to the north that houses the Community Development division offices. A third building, the dilapidated Kwilecki Building to the south, was renovated and unified with the other two to provide more office and storage space.
Childers Construction of Tallahassee was the contractor for the renovation — its local partner was PDC Construction of Bainbridge.
