BPS: Busted Headlight Leads to Drug Arrest

Bainbridge Public Safety arrested 42 year old Tamario Montey Turner late Thursday night after a busted headlight led to a traffic stop.

According to the police report, BPS Officer Timothy Shaw observed Turner’s silver Chevrolet Malibu travelling north on Thornateeska Drive in Bainbridge with one headlight out.  After initiating a traffic stop at the intersection of Broughton and Thornateeska, Shaw smelled the odor of unburnt marijuana.

Because of the drug smell, Shaw asked Turner to exit the vehicle, searched him for weapons and asked if there was anything illegal in the car.  Turner stated that there was “a smoked blunt in the vehicle from earlier”.  Shaw placed Turner in investigative custody to retrieve the drug.

During a search of the car, Shaw located multiple burnt and unburnt marijuana blunts in the car’s ashtray as well as a clear baggie in the center arm rest that contained a crystal like substance believed to be methamphetamine.  After the search, Officer Shaw went to the rear of the patrol vehicle where he placed Turner during the investigation and found a clear sack containing a green leafy like substance in the rear floor board of the patrol car.

Turner was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and headlight requirements.  The 2012 Chevrolet Malibu was towed from the scene and Turner was transported to the Decatur County Jail.
