ATLANTA (September 1, 2017) | Sen. Dean Burke (R – Bainbridge) announced that Senate District 11 will be receiving three of the 59 grants awarded to Georgia communities for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The CDBG program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and administered by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA).
“The improvements that these projects will bring to these three cities will not only benefit the cities’ current systems but will also create room for future economic growth and development,” said Sen. Burke. “I look forward to seeing what these projects will do in the future and how these necessary changes will positively impact the citizens in our local community and around the state.”
The City of Bainbridge will receive $277,280 for drainage and street improvements, the City of Pelham will receive $725,773 for neighborhood revitalization and the City of Thomasville will receive $750,000 for multi infrastructure improvements.
These projects aim to create jobs and drive economic growth within Georgia’s small and rural communities. The grants are distributed on an annual basis and communities who receive funding must complete their designated project within two years of receiving the award.
