PRESS RELEASE
On Sunday, May 14, at approximately 5:40am, E-911 dispatched Bainbridge Public Safety to 912 Martin Street in reference to multiple vehicles on fire. Upon arriving on scene, Sergeant Timothy Mixon observed three vehicles fully involved, and advised responding units of the situation.
Decatur County Fire Rescue was dispatched to assist. All three vehicle fires were extinguished, and crews performed salvage and overhaul to ensure all hidden fires and hotspots were out.
Fire Chief Doyle Welch and Captain Ryan Deen, Fire Investigators for Bainbridge Public Safety, determined that a 1992 Ford F-150 pickup truck was the primary point of origin of the fire, and the radiant heat being produced from this vehicle fire caused a 2003 Ford Escape, along with a 1984 Ford Ranger, to burn. Also, radiant heat from the Ford Ranger caused a blue plastic tarp covering a 1987Chevrolet Camaro to melt causing damage to the paint.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
