On Wednesday, April 27, Bainbridge Public Safety Officers Jason Hayes and Tim McCain responded to a vehicle accident at Rivers Apartments in Bainbridge. When they arrived, the officers found the scene of a three vehicle hit and run.
From the report:
“A blue, four door Chevrolet Prizm on the grass area…The Prizm had extensive damage to the front end, the front windshield was shattered, the driver side front and back tires were knocked off the rims, and both the driver and passenger front airbags were deployed. Officer Hayes and McCain saw a white Chevrolet Impala with moderate damage to the front driver side bumper. Officer Hayes and McCain then noticed a Chevy Malibu with it’s front end on the sidewalk with damage to the front driver side quarter panel, front driver side rim and tire, and the front passenger side quarter panel.” — Bainbridge Public Safety Incident Report
Based on witness descriptions of the event, Carmiah Crawford and Rickie Zeigler were arguing outside of Crawford’s apartment. Crawford then got into the driver’s seat of Zeigler’s Chevrolet Prizm and left the scene. Zeigler then followed in Crawford’s Malibu. A few moments later, witnesses describe hearing a loud crash and observing an accident involving all three vehicles. One witness stated that after the crash, she walked up to find Crawford laying on the ground near Zeigler’s Prizm and when she attempted to check on her, Crawford walked away from the scene. After the accident, Zeigler was seen approaching the accident scene and moving his belongings from the Prizm to the Malibu. The third car, a white Chevrolet Impala, was parked when it was struck by the Malibu.
From the report:
“Officers observed skid marks on the road way leading up to a curb and grassy area where the Chevrolet Prizm lost control and struck the Chevrolet Malibu. In the grass behind the Chevrolet Prizm, McCain located Zeigler’s driver’s license. Officers searched the area and went to Crawford’s apartment to try and locate Crawford or Zeigler, but were unable to locate them.” — Bainbridge Public Safety Incident Report
Later that day, Officer McCain spoke with a Grady County Deputy who told him about a call he’d received involving Crawford running into a wooded area while intoxicated, however the deputy was unable to locate Crawford.
The case has been turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division of the Bainbridge Public Safety. Anyone with information is asked to contact Bainbridge Public Safety at 229-248-2038.
