A suspect in a Thomasville church burglary from March is finally behind bars tonight.
Investigators thought a burglar caught on camera stealing money from Thomasville First United Methodist Church was a man. But DNA testing on blood found at the scene showed the crook was a woman.
The DNA matched a woman already in the system from previously being charged with a felony. Investigators say Chalaka Young is the burglar who broke into the church’s main office and stole $300.
“They broke into my office through the window they come out of my office that’s when the motion detector picked up on them,” said Peggy Taylor.
Investigators stumbled upon Young last week after initially looking for two other suspects involved in a separate case.
“We just so happen to run into this individual as I said while out on another situation and at that time she was taken into custody,” said Captain Maurice Holmes.
Young was arrested and charged with burglary and could face 1 to 5 years in prison.

Former President Jimmy Carter says no signs of cancer
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter delivered an unexpected message on Sunday to the several hundred people gathered at a Baptist church in Georgia for his Bible lesson — his latest brain scan showed no sign of cancer.
Carter, 91, started treatment in August for melanoma that had spread from his liver to his brain. A previous MRI test showed the four spots of cancer that had developed on his brain were responding to treatment, he said.
“When I went this week, they didn’t find any cancer at all, so I have good news,” Carter told the crowd at Maranatha Baptist Church in his hometown of Plains, Georgia, according to a video from NBC News.
The former Democratic president, known for his unassuming style, offered a quick smile as people who had come for the Sunday school class he teaches gasped and clapped.
In a brief written statement afterward, Carter confirmed his most recent brain scan “did not reveal any signs of the original cancer spots nor any new ones.”
