Seminole County advances to state softball championship tournament

The Seminole County Lady Indians varsity softball team advanced to the final rounds of the state softball championship to be held next week in Columbus, Ga. The Lady Indians earned their spot with a pair of wins over the Bremen High School Lady Blue Devils on Wednesday night.

So far, the Seminole County Lady Indians have a perfect 4-0 record in the state playoffs. Next, the Lady Indians will travel to Columbus, Ga., to play in the final rounds of the state softball tournament, which will be double elimination.

If you are interested in going to see the Lady Indians play, the games will be held Oct. 29-31 at South Commons Softball Complex, 400 4th St., Columbus, GA 31901. Tickets are $10 for each day.

Game 1 – Seminole County 12, Bremen 11 (11 innings)

Pitchers had a tough day during the first game between the Seminole County and Bremen, as the two teams put up 23 runs combined in a 12-11 Lady Indians win.

The two teams combined for 37 hits, including eight extra base hits. It took 11 innings to determine a winner (normal softball games are 7 innings) and there were 13 lead changes in the game.

Seminole County took the lead in the twelfth inning and held on for the victory. A walk by Carlee Burke scored Hannah Buczek and gave the Lady Indians the lead for good.

Evan Hall recorded the win for the Lady Indians even though she allowed seven runs over 12 innings. She struck out one, walked three and surrendered 19 hits.

The Lady Indians’ Buczek, Burke, Dejah Martin and Erin Dow combined for nine hits and five RBIs.

Bremen High’s Gabby Liles ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She allowed six runs in 11 innings, walked four and struck out five.

The bottom of the first saw Seminole County take an early lead, 2-0. A double by Dow, bringing home Burke started the inning off. The Lady Indians added more runs when Dow scored on an RBI double by Taylor Godby.

Bremen scored one run in each of the fifth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth. In the fifth, the Lady Blue Devils scored on an RBI single by Bethany Chapman, plating Baldwin.

After posting two runs in the sixth, Bremen again scored two in the eleventh. In the sixth, the Lady Blue Devils scored on a two-run double by Ally, scoring Green and Haley Cook.

Bremen put up one run in each of the eighth, ninth and tenth. In the eighth, Bremen scored on a sacrifice fly by Ally, bringing home Green.

The Lady Indians scored one run of their own in the eighth, on a wild pitch. In the ninth, the Lady Indians scored on a steal of home by Burke.

The Lady Indians answered Bremen’s top of the 10th inning with one run of their own in the tenth. The Lady Indians scored on an RBI single by Buczek.

The Lady Indians survived Bremen’s surge and put up two runs of their own in the eleventh. The Lady Indians scored on an RBI triple by Dow and an RBI single by Emily Brown.

Game 2 – Seminole County 4, Bremen 2

There were fewer runs scored in the series’ 2nd game, but it was no less exciting as the Seminole County Lady Indians won again at home to get a spot in the state softball tournament in Columbus.

Evan Hall was strong at the plate and on the rubber in carrying the Lady Indians to a 4-2 victory over Bremen on Wednesday.

Hall put herself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Lady Indians. She doubled in the third and fifth innings.

Hall picked up the win for the Lady Indians. She pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, five hits and one walk while striking out one.

Green took the loss for Bremen. She lasted just seven innings, walked three, struck out six, and allowed four runs.

Seminole County didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring two runs in the second inning when they scored on a two-run double by Dejah Martin.

Bremen got one-run rallies in the second inning and the third. In the second, Bremen scored on an RBI triple by Chapman, scoring Caitlyn Smith.

The Lady Indians pushed across one run in both the third inning and the fourth. In the third, the Lady Indians scored on an RBI double by Hall, bringing home Erin Dow.

One run in the bottom of the third helped Bremen close its deficit to 3-2. An RBI double by Emily Miles sparked Bremen’s rally. Hall ended the inning by getting Smith to fly out.
