Officials say five Florida Panhandle high school students have been taken to local hospitals after their school bus was hit by a dump truck that ran a red light.
The bus, which was occupied by 22 students and a driver, flipped over onto its side and came to rest against a utility pole.
Escambia County School District Superintendent Malcom Thomas says none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. Students from Pensacola High School were on the bus late Thursday afternoon when it was hit less than a mile from the school.
Thomas says medical crews evaluated all of the students and determined that five needed additional treatment. Read More at North Escambia Journal
Police thwart counterfeiting ring
Valdosta Police have made arrests related to a counterfeit check ring with several arrests reported.
Sunday, August 16, Valdosta Detectives Derrick Keene and Kari Bennett received a tip that subjects were traveling around Valdosta attempting to pass counterfeit checks at local businesses.
Detectives Keene and Bennett located three individuals: Christopher Crumpton, 44, Malinda Spargo, 20, and Joseph Jackson, 24. An investigation revealed that Crumpton’s brother, Curtis Crumpton, 43, was producing the counterfeit checks while Spargo and Jackson and Christopher Crumpton were passing the checks at local Publix, Walmart and Winn Dixie locations.
