A man working on a project to construct a new nursing studies building at Bainbridge State College fell off a scaffolding Monday morning.
5 p.m. update: We are told the construction worker who fell was released from the Thomasville hospital late Monday afternoon.
The man–who is not from Bainbridge–was working as a mason for a Colquitt County, GA, subcontractor, according to Erwin Harrell, president of Southern Triad Construction of Bainbridge, the lead company working on the project. The accident happened at approximately 9:30 a.m. on June 29.
Harrell said the man fell onto concrete, but his injuries did not appear life-threatening. As a precaution, Decatur County EMS initially called for an emergency medical helicopter, but ultimately EMS transported the construction worker by ambulance to Archbold Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
“He was conscious and talking after the fall and did not appear to have any external injuries,” Harrell said Monday afternoon. “It’s my understanding that he was taken to Thomasville for evaluation because of the nature of the accident.”
The construction site, which will provide new classrooms and lab space for the Bainbridge State College nursing program, is located behind the Student Wellness Center, on the southern end of campus.
“Certainly our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family,” Harrell said of the injured man.
