SEC Schedule Ranking: #12 Tennessee Volunteers

Tennessee Volunteers - TMidway through the 4th quarter on November 1st, 2014, something with the Tennessee Volunteers football team clicked and the Vols scored three touchdowns in six and a half minutes to force overtime & eventually beat the heavily favored South Carolina Gamecocks. Tennessee went on to win four of their final five games of the 2014 season in Butch Jones’ second season as Volunteers head coach. I’ve got a feeling that the 2015 Tennessee Volunteers is going to be a fun bunch to watch.

Tennessee opens the season in Nashville against the Bowling Green Falcons who finished the season 8-6 in 2014. The Volunteers have their 2015 home opener in Neyland Stadium the following week against the Oklahoma Sooners which will be a great early season inter sectional match up. On September 19th, Tennessee faces FCS opponent Western Carolina before making the trip the following week to Gainesville to take on the hated Florida Gators, a team that edged Tennessee 10-9 a season ago.

The month of October opens for the Volunteers with back-to-back home games against the up-and-coming Arkansas Razorbacks and the Georgia Bulldogs, a team that Tennessee just ran out of time against last season. The October 3rd game against Arkansas will be a fun game between two teams that many believe will turn the corner in year 3 of their new coaches’ tenures. After the game against Georgia the Vols have their bye week followed by their annual October date with the Crimson Tide of Alabama, this year in Tuscaloosa. The next week Tennessee will close out the month of October on Halloween night in Lexington against the Kentucky Wildcats in the annual Battle for the Barrel game.

Tennessee has three home games in November so if they are able to get through the first two months of the season in good shape, they could be in the mix for the SEC East by season’s end. The Volunteers start the month with back-to-back home games against South Carolina & North Texas followed by their final road game of the season in Columbia, Missouri, against the reigning two time East champion Missouri Tigers. Then Tennessee will close out the regular season on Rocky Top against the Vanderbilt Commodores.

If the Volunteers can carry over some of the momentum they had at the end of last season to the 2015 season, this will be a fun team to keep up with throughout the season. They dodge both Mississippi schools and get some key conference games in Knoxville. Don’t be surprised if the SEC East champion comes out of that November 21st game in Columbia, Missouri.
