An Andalusia, Alabama man is being held at the Early County, Ga., Jail and will be charged in connection with the shooting deaths of two Damascus men on Tuesday night, Early County Sheriff William Price said Wednesday.
Shortly before 10 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, Early County Sheriff’s deputies received a 911 call about gunshots being fired at 48 Marion Street in Damascus. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found two white males killed by gun fire, Sheriff Price said.
Terry Cox, 29, was found inside the residence, which he was renting at the time, according to Price.
Leland Gleaton, 23, was found outside the residence.
Citizens gave Sheriff’s deputies a description of the shooter’s vehicle as a white pickup truck with chrome rims. A short time later, deputies pulled over a truck matching that description headed west on Georgia Highway 200, at a point about halfway between Damascus and Blakely, Ga., according to Sheriff Price.
The driver of the truck, identified as Alan Abney, 24, of Andalusia, Ala., was placed under arrest and taken to the Early County Jail.
We talked with Sheriff Price at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Price said his agency was not ready to list the charges against Abney but the sheriff said Abney would be charged in connection with the deaths of Cox and Gleaton.
