Bainbridge Public Safety Director Eric Miller resigned from his position on Friday afternoon, March 6.
City Manager Chris Hobby said Miller made a personal decision and thanked Miller for leading Bainbridge Public Safety for the past 3 1/2 years.
“He made a personal decision he wanted to step away. We respect that and understand that. We wish him nothing but good things. He’s a good friend.”
Miller came to Bainbridge in November 2011, after previously serving as the Public Safety director in Albion, Michigan.

Jerry Carter, who retired from Bainbridge Public Safety in August 2014 after 37 years with the department, will assume the position of interim Public Safety Director as of Monday, March 9. Carter’s appointment will give the city time to arrange a transition to a new director, Hobby said.
“[Jerry] told me, ‘This isn’t a permanent thing, I’m retired. He’s willing to get us over this little bump in the road.”
City Manager Hobby said the city will likely forego a nationwide search for a new director this time around, and seek to promote the next BPS director from within the department’s existing officers.
“We’ll open it up internally only initially, and I’ll handle the process myself. If I don’t find a good pick, we might go through [a wider search].”
“We’ve got some high quality people in the department, though. I’m expecting we can probably fill this internally.”
