Seminole boys to play for state basketball championship; Pelham girls and Cairo boys fall just short in Final Four

bracket-imageThree Southwest Georgia high schools had basketball teams competing in the Final Four round of the Georgia state basketball tournaments this weekend.

Pelham’s girls team lost to Holy Innocents (Atlanta) 78-70 at Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga.

The Cairo boys team lost a close one to Carrollton, 48-45 on Saturday night at the University of West Georgia.

Seminole County’s boys team defeated Vidalia 59-56 on Saturday night in Columbus.

The Indians will now travel to Macon and play for the Class AA State Championship on Friday, March 6 at 4:45 p.m. In the championship Seminole County will face Crawford County, who beat Swainsboro 71-56 in the other semifinal game.

Seminole County’s boys were the AA Region 1 champions; their only losses during the regular season were to Bainbridge, which is in the AAAA classification. To get to the Final Four, the Indians beat Benedictine, Rabun County and Manchester.
