CAIRO, Ga. – The Georgia Department of Transportation invites the public to view plans and submit comments on the replacement of the state Route 112 Sapp Creek bridge, which will require a traffic detour.
The bridge replacement plans and proposed detour route will be displayed during a public information open house from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Roddenberry Memorial Library, 320 N. Broad St. in Cairo. Georgia DOT representatives will be available to discuss the project and answer questions. There will not be a formal presentation.
The Georgia DOT project site is approximately five miles northwest of Cairo. The new bridge will be wider and higher than the current one, which was built in 1950 and does not meet current design standards. A recreational lake under construction by Grady County also will overtop the current bridge.
The proposed detour route during construction is SR 93 from Cairo to Pelham, then west along SR 65 to SR 112. This will add five miles to the normal travel distance for through traffic on SR 112. Using an off-site traffic detour will shorten bridge construction time.
Those who attend the open house may give a verbal or written statement and anyone unable to attend may still submit a written comment by mail or online by Tuesday, Feb. 3. Mailed comments should be sent to:
Ms. Hiral Patel, P.E.
