Local tennis teams headed to final round of state tournaments

The Seminole County (Ga.) Indians’ boys tennis team defeated Commerce in Northeast Georgia on Friday, April 26. The Donalsonville boys will advance to the championship of the state tennis tournament, which will be held at Berry College in Rome, Ga., on May 4.

According to the Donalsonville News, the Seminole Indian boys earlier defeated Irwin County, 3 matches to 1, to reach the Final Four.

Advancing to the Final Four, in the AAAAA classification, are the Bainbridge High School Bearcats’ girls tennis team, which will host Kell High School in the semifinal round. Matches will be played in Bainbridge, date and time to be announced. Coach Amy Thomas said the matches may be played on Monday, April 29.

The Bainbridge High School boys’ tennis team advanced to the Sweet 16 round, where they fell to Wayne County, in Bainbridge.

Last but not least, the Miller County Pirates’ girls tennis team is also advancing to the Final Four round in the A classification. They will travel to Commerce, Ga. by April 30.

Grace Christian Academy tennis team also excelled this year

Sowegalive is a big supporter of all Southwest Georgia teams, public and private schools, so we would be remiss without mentioning the success of the Grace Christian Academy boys’ and girls’ tennis teams.

The GCA Doubles’ teams advanced to the Elite Eight round of the GISA State Tennis Tournament, held in Rome, Ga. on April 16. The GCA tennis players brought home several trophies!

Sarah Beth Griffin/Olivia Penela
Avery Andrews/Ella Harrell
Representing GCA in the singles’ tournament was Caroline Wells.
