BPS: Drug Bust in College Street Park

PRESS RELEASE

Keeping Drugs Out of Our City Parks…

Around 4pm on the afternoon of Friday, April 5th, Investigators Chip Nix and Larry Funderburke observed a drug transaction taking place in the parking lot of the College Street Park & Playground. Sergeant Toby Miller and Investigators Mark Esquivel and Chris Jordan arrived to provide backup. A female, later identified as Tina Denise Gainous, parked and then exited her vehicle holding a small white package.

She walked over to a pick-up truck that was also parked in the parking lot and got in the passenger side. At the same time, Sergeant Miller observed a male passenger sitting in Gainous’ vehicle, later identified as Charles Whit Sheffield Jr., roll down the window and drop a small plastic package onto the asphalt.

Investigator Esquivel approached the pick-up truck and could smell the odor of marijuana. He asked the driver, identified as Thelma Renee Lamb, and Gainous to step out. When Gainous exited the truck, Investigator Nix spotted the small white package on the floorboard. It was found to contain 39 Hydrocodone pills. Investigator Nix then walked over to the passenger side of Gainous’ parked vehicle and retrieved the small plastic package that Sheffield had dropped out of the window. It was found to contain 14 white Hydrocodone pills. Sergeant Miller asked Sheffield to step out of the vehicle and he was placed under arrest.

During the investigation, Officers learned that Lamb was at the park with the intentions of purchasing the Hydrocodone pills from Gainous and Sheffield. Officers also discovered several bags of marijuana that were hidden inside of the truck’s console. All three individuals were transported to Bainbridge Public Safety Headquarters.
